They're good cars, Very solid feeling. Not bad at all for an SUV.

I'd also suggest the Audi Allroad, Which I have more experience with.

Yep. Drove one from Lexington, KY to St. Louis, MO a few years ago. Had the choice to drive either a Supercharged Ranger Rover Sport, or the 3.2 Q5. Chose the Q5.

Fun little car. More fun than I had ever expected. Pickup was good, handled well for it's size, the "sport" button actually tightened steering/brakes/throttle. It's a pretty good highway cruiser as well. Overall, I was impressed with it.

My sister has one. Drove in it a few times. It gets a meh...itīs quite forgettable. Does handle pretty good though, especially for a SUV.

All I know is ... my parents really want one. I showed them to the local Audi dealer and they fell in love with the Q5.

Its got a soft, pillowy ride with some lean in the corners. The base 2.0T has good power. ( I dont think the dealer had a 3.0T to test drive at that time but they'll be specing out that one)

I did feel a little claustrophobic in the back, but regardless the interior is Audi spec nice.

Its a solid vehicle, but at the same time its somewhat unique as far as its competition.

Other than the vertical chrome strips in the grille on that particular Q5, i think they're some of the better looking SUV's out there.

My dad was kinda looking at one, I don't think it's for him, but they are quite good cars. Well made, reasonably quick depending on trim, safe, and just a generaply sensible luxury crossover. They're a little boring, but decent cars. I'd also look at an Allroad, X3, GLK (only b/c same category) Evoque, XC60, and that new Lincoln.

Are there any reasons why the Allroad starts $3K higher than the Q5? Mechanically they seem very similar aside from the fact that there are more engine options on the Q5. It seems that we would need to pay more to get rid of the JC Whitney plasticky bodykit on the Allroad.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Evoque.

Thanks for the feedback. My dad seems to really like the Q5 even though he's still on the fence about owning a German car.

I'd describe it as a highly premium Subaru Outback more than anything. It's more updated than the Q5, and it honestly a better car. The plastic trim is actually something that's a nice feature. Less dings, and dents from parking in the city along with encouraging you to thrash it a little bit. It's a really great car, and the interior build quality feels great and not delicate at all. It's a car that's just begging to be used.

Sounds good. I think my parents are looking at one with the base 2.0 as well.

I sell them. I've driven them, a million times. Every variant, TDI, SQ5, you name it.

Fantastic car to own, inside the warranty period.

If you can get over the very "trendy" styling (which some hate, and I love) it's a very good car. It has one of the best interiors in the segment. The Evoque, that is.

I recently had both a Q5 and an Allroad as loaner cars. Both had the 2.0T. I much preferred the Allroad, since it drove very much like a car, yet had a ton of space. The Q5's ride, especially on the highway, left a lot to be desired. I felt it wasn't very stable and there was significant side to side motion and body roll.

I think it's the plastic bodykit that bothers my parents more than anything about the Allroad. Florett Silver metallic is probably the only color they would get it in if they didn't go with the $1000 extra option of having the fenders and bumpers painted body color.

They honestly would not regret the plastic bits, But the body colored fenders and such wouldn't look bad. It's all just a matter of personal preference, and what they'd be primarily using the car for.

Cool. 2 questions:

1. What does the 12 month/5000 mile maintenance deal cover?

2. "inside the warranty period" means 4 years/50000 miles. Any foreseeable expensive maintenance/repair costs outside that window in longer ownership?

Neither me nor my parents trust anything Jaguar Land Rover makes or have made in the past (maybe except Defenders and some first gen Range Rovers)

I know times have changed, but the name "Allroad" still raises an alarm for me. How does reliability compare with the Q5?

Kinja'd!!! jkm7680 > BrownMiataDieselWagon

Pretty much exactly the same. The Allroad has the 2.0T engine same as the Q5, and it's a great engine. The 2.7TT was really what gave the old Allroad the reputation that it has now. Either way, They're pretty reliable cars.

I see them daily here in the DC Area, So that's just another sign that people like what they see.

When I test drove every SUV under the son because that is what my wife wanted, I found it to be the ultimate beigemobile, nice interior, completely boring in every other respect.

My dad owns the 3.2. It's a pretty good car, good acceleration, handles nicely, and makes a pretty nice sound.

Thanks for your input. I personally like the body-style of the Allroad more because it's more wagon-y than the Q5, but I think it's going to be tough to justify the $3K price difference (which is actually more than $3K because our local dealers have extra incentives on Q5's but none for Allroads)

If you have any more questions feel free to ask them!

Both of them are great cars, and I highly recommend both. It would be tough to justify the price difference, But the Allroad is essentially the lovechild of a wagon and an SUV.

Audicare, cost 860 dollars, covers all scheduled maintenance and oil changes to 55k miles. Well worth the money.

Problems after warranty, well, that's a loaded question. The 2.0t is notorious for oil consumption and carbon buildup. Panoramic roofs leak and creak, electrical components fail. Parts are super expensive. Labor is super expensive. I could go on....

A guy at work got one a couple year ago, trading in his BMW 135, (which had terminal transmission issues...) He likes it. Typical nice interior. I rode in it, (nice) but never drove it. Has not had any issues with it. It had the 3.2 six rather than the turbo.
